Zakynthos island
Zakynthos is the southernmost and third largest of the Ionian Islands and is situated 8.5 nautical miles south of Kefalonia and 9.5 nautical miles west of Peloponnese. Since the Middle Ages, the Venetians who ruled the island used to call it as "Fior di Levante", which means "Flower of the East", fair enough to say as nowadays, Zakynthos is thought to be one of the most charming destinations in Greece. A place full of contrasts, it seduces its visitors with its many picturesque villages, its imaginary sightseeing like the Blue Caves or the world-famous beach of Shipwreck (Navagio) and its long culture heritage, which travels through the centuries.
